Common Massage Oils That Use for Relax

There are a vast range of oils used in massage, each containing different properties to benefit particular skin types. In massage, there are two basic types of oil used - these are known as essential oils and carrier oils. The carrier oil makes up most of the massage blend, and generally has little scent of its own. Essential oils are often too strong to be applied undiluted, and are blended with the carrier oil to create a diluted substance which will not irritate the skin. The four most commonly used essential oils in massage are beneficial to your skin due to their alleged healing properties.

Grapeseed oil
Grapeseed oil has great skin moisturising properties, rich in linoleic acid which has regenerative and restructuring qualities. It contains vitamins including vitamin E, protein and minerals. Grapeseed oil has a fine texture and is non greasy.

Carrier oils
Carrier oils have therapeutic benefits in themselves and are generally made from the oils of seeds, nuts and sometimes vegetables.

Almond oil
Almond oil is one of more commonly used in aromatherapy and massage. This oil is particularly soothing to the skin, and helps nourish the skin due to oil imbalance or loss of moisture.

Jojoba oil
Jojoba oil is ideal for the skin, suitable for all skin types. This oil acts as an excellent moisturiser and penetrates the skin easily.

Apricot oil
Apricot oil is particularly helpful for sensitive or dehydrated skin. It has moisturising and revitalising properties, which also help soothe inflamed skin. The oil is rich in oleic acid and linoleic acid and spreads easily due to its fine texture.

Avocado oil
Avocado oil is used on mature or dry skin, and is highly beneficial to people with skin sensitivities and problems such as psoriasis and eczema. The oil is easily absorbed by the skin and has very soothing properties. The avocado can be used pure but is generally mixed with another carrier, such as almond.

Peppermint
Peppermint essential oil acts as an anti-inflammatory; it can help relieve skin problems such as eczema and aids in circulation.

Wheat germ oil
Wheat germ oil assists in healing scar tissue and stretch marks. When the oil is applied regularly it may help promote the formation of new cells, and improve circulation. Wheat germ oil is often used to promote smooth, younger looking skin, and is generally blended with lighter carriers such as almond due to its sticky consistency.
